Kitty love is expensive. And sometimes inconvenient.Lots of purrs for the kitties and hugs for you,
Lindy was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and was put on medication to
be given twice a day. Yesterday I took her in for blood tests to see of
the dosage was correct. She was also due for her leukemia vaccination.
The doctor said she was a little dehydrated, and if they gave her the
vaccination it might upset her stomach, but that subcutaneous fluid would
prevent that. The cost of the visit was $208.
Today I took Nanki-Poo in because he had a sore on the back of his neck.
He had one a couple of years ago, and it itched. He dug at it and ended
up with a terrible large wound that took weeks to heal. I wanted to nip
that in the bud, so I took him in today. The doctor found another one on
the side of his neck. She decided it was an allergy. She gave him a
steroid shot, which she said would help, cleaned the wounds, and gave me
antibiotics to give him twice a day for ten days. She also said his diet
should be changed, since it's probably an intermittent food allergy.
Cost of visit: $196.
I've had both cats for years, and the feeding routine has been the same
all that time. There is always dry food down for them to graze. They
get 1/4 can each of wet food every evening. The doctor prescribed
hypoallergenic food for Nanki-Poo, but said Lindy can eat it too.
Nanki-Poo is supposed to have 1/3 can of the wet food twice a day, and
3/4 cup of the kibble once a day.
There's no way I can make sure who eats what, so I'll have to give them
both the hypoallergenic food, which is bound to be more expensive that
what they are eating now. It will also be a real pain to change their
eating habits and my feeding habits.
Arrrrgh! Thanks for letting me vent.
Polonca and Soncek
Thank you, Polonca. Both of them are doing fine.
Lindy's tests showed that the dosage of thyroid medicine could be reduced
from 0.25 ml to 0.15 ml twice a day.
Nanki-Poo's wounds are healing nicely. The doctor prefers the feeding
pattern I was using before, so the cats and I are happy about that. I'm
going to discuss the food with her when we go back for Nanki's checkup next
week, because I don't think the problem was the food, and they aren't eating
it very well.
