(But I'll bet my BRAVE AND FIERCE* Licky boy would.)

Joyce

*(Did you see that, KFC?)

Yeah. I seed it. You called my Licky an uber-wuss, tho. Dat
not nice. I
still watching ur fingers. Tek note.

KFC

Oh, Kitty - I *knew* you were going to respond like that. :)
There's no pleasing some Queens of the New Feline Order, is
there?

She was actually sitting right next to my monitor looking at the
screen when I read this! I've banned her from replying ;-)
She wants to know if she can teleport over tonight to spend a
couple of days with Licky because the weather forecast says we
will get 3" of rain tomorrow.

Tweed

We got more than 3" in Filey yesterday, it was chaos round here.
I'm very thankful I live on a hill.

The 3" has not materialised yet here, although it has been chucking
it down with rain all day, we haven't had the continual torrential
rain that was forecast. Yet.
I'm like you, my house is not at risk, but it's dreadful for my
chickens. No matter how I try to keep their runs dry, even the runs
that are covered the water seeps up from the ground and the eggs are
too dirty to sell. Hens are funny. You might have 5 nestboxes, all
available, but once
one hen lays an egg in one, that's the only nestbox they all want to
use. If it's wet outside, they will all put their muddy feet on
every egg as they visit this special preferred nestbox. Aaargh.
I have 3 dozen dirty eggs that I cannot sell due to the weather.
Selling the eggs does not cover the cost of keeping my hens, but it
helps towards the food which is £21/fortnight.

Tweed

I know nothing about eggs and chicken keeping, but can you not just
wash off the eggs?

No, the eggs are white, and are stained even if washed, plus it is
not permitted to sell washed eggs in the UK. I have to keep them for
my own use. Recipe for 5 dozen eggs anyone?
What I will probably have to do is scramble them and feed them back
to my hens.
Parts of the UK are under water now. The fire service is rescuing
people in other counties. I should not grumble about dirty eggs.
I've spent most of the day digging liquid mud out from my chicken
runs and putting bark chippings down. I don't know how long it will
hold if the rain keeps on. I just did it all last weekend, too. I
don't seem to have time to do much else. Forget the housework, the
laundry. That's history until the rain stops.

Tweed

They say it should stay dry on Tuesday, then more rain on Wednesday. Do you
still have Wednesday's off? If so at least you'll be there if you have to
bail the chickens out.
