First off, on Wednesday when I saw the surgeon my blood pressure was 160
over 101!!!
This is not good. My blood pressure rises high if I have to see an
unfamiliar doctor or go into hospital for tests or operations. They call it
"white coat syndrome" here. It's a fright response apparently. Did you
feel scared - even a little - at the time?
Then the surgeon felt my
stomach and said something is definitely amiss. He said it either a
hernia, a tumor, or something that went wrong with the surgery (possibly
adhesions).
Don't panic yet. There are a number of possibilities, most of which can be
put right.
Whatever it is it, is probable that I'll need surgery.
I'm sorry about that. I hate surgery as much as anyone and I guess you do
too!
I have to go have a CT scan tomorrow and a "barium swallow" on
>Wednesday.
My CT scan was not stressful at all. As for the barium swallow, they seemed
to have forgotten that I had nothing to eat or drink in the 3 days I'd been
in there. I had a canula in and a drip up but nothing had passed my lips.
This large glass of gunk appeared on my bedside table. "Do try and get as
much of it down as you can" said the nurse.
I almost snatched it up. Glug, glug, glug. They had flavoured it a bit
with a fruit taste. Not very much but enough.
The nurse was so surprised when she came back a bit later to find it all
gone. She said "Oh, *well done*" LOL. I wanted to tell her to bring me
another one <g> I was so hungry.
They had totally forgotten to feed me. I had a big notice above my bed "NIL
BY MOUTH." This was because when I was first admitted they were expecting
to have to operate on me immediately. When they couldn't fit me in to the
surgeon's schedule straight away they didn't take that notice off.
I watched for 3 days while the other patients in beds nearby got their
breakfasts, lunches and dinners. If I'd been well enough at the time I
would have risen from my bed and snatched it off them.
In the end I said to a nurse "do you realise I haven't had anything to eat
for three days?" To which she replied "OMG, are you hungry?" !!
My boss won't let me
take just a few hours off each day - he's making me use up my "Paid Time
Off" (PTO) hours which means that's that many fewer hours I'll be able to
take off for job hunting. Then I'll have to use up any time I may have
left if I have surgery done.
I wish him bad karma. I don't know if it would be legal here. We are
allowed sick leave up to a certain amount and for the first 6 months we are
paid in full. After that we are paid half pay and after that, nothing.
This is just my local government employer though.
Do you have anything in the USA like our Disability Discrimination Act,
which has kicked in recently?
My employers had to provide certain equipment for me to cope with my work
after I had my eye ops and they had help with this from Central Government.
I have several thousand pounds worth of stuff and it does really help.
It does slow me down a bit to have to read things via this, but that is
something my employers have to cope with. They are not allowed to
terminate my employment because I have become disabled in service. Meaning
I was ok when I first worked there but now I'm not.
Sigh, I guess it never rains but it pours!
Yep, that's how it works. You'll be fine. Suck up to your nasty boss
until you can find something else. And when you do tell him to
**************** insert your preference.
Many purrs for a good resolution.
