All my life I've heard how wonderful filet mignon is - rich people
seem to rave about it, it's always the most expensive thing on the
menu. Well, believe it or not I've gone my whole life without
tasting it (I'm not a big red meat fan and it always seemed too
dear). Tonight, there was a sale on it at the market - 4 nice, large
pieces of meat for only $10, so I though, what the heck, let's give
it a try.
I *HATED* it! The bacon-y taste was yucky, (I don't like hickory
bacon - or much of any kind of bacon, but I thought if I took it off
first it wouldn't affect the steak).
OB. I offered my steak to the owners and they all turned their noses
up at it also!!
I guess we all just have plebian taste! ;>
I have to agree here. I love the *meat* of filet mignon, but the bacon
totally ruins it for me. I love bacon too, but I find that it's flavour
is just too strong and overwhelms all other flavours. When I eat meat,
I want to taste the meat, not bacon! For this reason I also never eat
bacon burgers. Bacon is for breakfast, IMO, and nothing else.

What if the meat was wrapped in something like pancetta instead? I'm not a
big red meat fan, either, so I've never tried the bacon wrapped filet
mignon. I'm just thinking that some form of thin ham around it might be
better than bacon.
