Re: AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [OT]

A few years ago I worked for a large regional grocery store chain. We had
decent benefits. But when I left, COBRA coverage for me and Nancy would
have cost us over $1000/month! That's just obscene.

Especially when you consider that unemployment insurance is only about
$1200 - $1400 per month!

I've heard a lot of people complain about the quality of medical care
available in Canada and the UK under the social medicine plan. However, I
*don't* hear about significant parts of the population going without
medical care!

I believe I'd rather pay income tax on the order of 50% and have the kind
of health care offered in Canada or the UK, than with the crap we have to
deal with here. This is inexcusable. Right now Nancy and I are covered
under her employer, and have access to coverage from my employer as well.
But that coverage is not nearly as good as the coverage I remember from
20-30 years ago. And it costs a whole lot more!

It's shameful what our politicians are allowing. I write to my elected
representatives often.
