She called today, and they want her to come in Wednesday for a heart
catheritization. At least that's what my mother said. She's pretty sharp
for 94, but she sometimes gets things mixed up. I'm thinking it's probably
an angiogram or angioplasty. She's supposed to avoid stress. I don't know

They do a catheterization for either. If they find blockage they will
schedule her for surgery pronto. I've had friends and relatives survive
the illness and the treatment. It isn't pleasant, but the odds are in
her favor.

If the blockage is such that it can be fixed by angioplasty, probably
including the insertion of a stent, they will likely do it as part of
the arteriogram procedure, since the catheter is already in place.
Since I have six stents in place, I have become fairly familiar with
the procedure. The one time that they did an angioplasty on me
without inserting a stent, the site closed up again within a few
months. If the blockage is more severe, and needs a bypass, then they
will schedule her for further surgery, as William said.
