I would normally recommend the DVD burner but it appeared that the original
poster was looking for something that would not break the budget. The DVD
burner is a good option for about thirty dollars US more than the CD Burner.
The thing is just about every computer one goes to can read a CD. Not every
computer out there can read a DVD yet. Some day but not yet.
The external HD is a good way to do backups and with the USB 2.0 on the new
system it is a fairly quick method.
One other option if there isn't a lot of data to back up is to use the USB
flash drives or thumb drives. Just carry them around on a lanyard around
your neck and you always have a backup with you and you know where it is.
