OT: Fires in Southern CA

Don't worry folks, i'm still alive with all the fires going on.
Everything is okay....for the moment.
Last night as i was driving home from work i could see the glow from
the fires in the distance. It has not been pretty.
Class was cancelled this morning because all the horses that have been
evacuated are now at Pierce College, and me and all the other RVT
students are helping. In this 99 degree heat, all the horses are
sweating and need to be watered. You can't really leave a bucket out
there too, because the horses are bored so they knock them over. So
i've spent the morning lugging heavy buckets in the hot sun. You can
totally see all the smoke too in the distance and the fire just doesn't
seem to be letting up. The horses are all nervous, and there's even
llamas and goats here too. I've heard people talking about how they
left and how they don't have any clothes. It's a little nerve racking.
I'm finally takign a break in the air-conditioned building before
lecture. It is unknown at this point whether we will need to go out
again to feed, water and calm the horses and spend more time in the
sun. We're all in our scrubs sweating, and thank goodness i had my
swim bag in the car with sunscreen in it. I assigned a lower student
to the water bottles, making sure all the humans have water.
Then whenever i get released from this,i need to hightail it to work.
We've been extremely short staffed this week. First Jen the supervisor
is really sick, and yesterday Theresa, the head tech gets into a car
accident. So i'm suddenly finding myself on the spot and learning
thigns on the fly. IT's very interesting in that i finally get to try
to learn and apply my skills but it's still weird at the same time.
Well they are still out today, so they are short staffed. To make
matters worse, one tech had to leave to help his parents evacuate, and
another head tech left to check on her animals and house in Simi
Valley.
So i'm ok, and the fire is far away from the school and even farther
from my apartment, and I doubt it will get here, but now i'm getting a
flavor of what the people in the Gulf coast felt like.
I'll try to stay safe, healthy and hydrated.
