Hee hee, I knew it, I knew this would happen - I was quite sure that he
would come out by himself and go back in by himself. But be prepared - one
day, he might enjoy being outside so much that he might refuse to go back
in. This is why you should train him well enough to get him to step up on
your hand/arm/stick to get him back inside.
Of course, this is only for times (such as emergencies) when you really must
get him inside the cage. Otherwise, I always like to have my birds outside
pretty much all the time.
