Other half (a Data Analyst) came home from work yesterday with a
letter from the HR department, November 1st she is furloughed for
30 days and if a new contract is not obtained or an existing
contract is not expanded she is laid off. The contract she was
working on has not been funded by DOD and the one that she is
currently working has been cut by 2/3Rd's and will expire
12/31/10, she was one of thirty people affected locally.
My daughter (a manager for a small Variety store) was informed her
store is being closed November 1st to consolidate assets and reduce
expenses. They offered her a store in Georgia but will not pay for
her to move if she takes it, she is not sure what she is going to
do as
she has a child to consider and a husband who is a bum (he has not
had a job in six years).
My son (a tool-grinder/maker) lost his job about a year ago and has
not been able to find steady work.
Me, (Retired Military/Operations Analyst) no pay increase this year
for the second year in a row and I've only had two 30 day
consulting contracts this year.
Thankfully, Wife and I worked hard to ensure that our bills are at
a minimum and the house and vehicles are paid for so my Military
Retired pay covers the bills. the wife has enough leave on the
books to carry us until January then unemployment for a bit of
time. I can draw SS near the end of next year (and had planned on
that anyway) so maybe we won't have to live on beans and popcorn.
I also have a little stashed in Certificates of Deposit and IRA's
I feel for those that have house and car payments and very little
savings, one of the ladies my wife works with said she will most
likely lose her house if she does not find work by January 1st, her
husband has a general contracting business and it has not been
paying the bills and he has had two stress induced heart attacks
in the last year and now can only work in the office.
I don't know if it just because I am older and more aware but even
during Carters administration the economy was not so messed up,
Trillions have been pumped into the market with no tangible
result. I think it is time to go back to the precepts and vision
of the Founding Fathers, if this thing is to be saved at all.

News flash...Obama didn't cause this recession...while we're not out
of the hole dug by the policies in play during 8 years of President
Bush, at least we're not still digging...be happy we didn't get
McCain/ Palin...21 months isn't enough time to undo the work of a
greedy Wall Street, an ignornant and prolifigate populous, and a
government that borrowed money and spent it like a drunken sailor.
So how is borrowing more money and accelerating spending going to
fix the economy?
What are the Democrats plans for dealing with an "ignornant(sic) and
prolifigate(sic) populous)? Will you submit?

LOL...I forgot who I was talking to by posting on RORT...the choice
this election cycle is simple: if you like the results produced during
the Bush years then vote Republican candidates in; if you prefer the
results produced during the Clinton years then vote Democratic
candidates in.
Why would voting for the same people who are currently in power (the
Democrats) give the results of the Clinton years (when Republicans were in
charge in both houses of Congress), rather than extending the results we
have seen for the last two years?

LOL...I'm hoping to extend some of the last two years' results...we're
climbing out of the economic hole left by the previous regime...we've
made a start at providing healthcare for all of us, that isn't
dependent on your locale or employer...I'm going to vote for people I
believe will loead us to prosperity, not just line the pockets of a
few...
We recently moved to California and the race for Senate between Boxer
and Fiorina presents a clear choice ...Fiorina presided over off-
shoring 30K jobs to India and China at HP while pulling down a $100
Million salary...Carly wouldn't even get my vote for dogcatcher. Meg
Whitman has spent millions of her own fortune in her quest to be
governor, and she has basically promised little more than to continue
with the Governator's failed policies...feh...
