After days of cold/rain/drizzle and clouds, the sun popped out and we
motored up to the lake. Cold front roared through overnight and so we
had headwinds of 25+ on the way up. Stopped for a propane fill
($1.99/gal) and gas ($2.77/gal). Dumped the sewer and filled with
water, bought a fishing license and still got here shortly after 11:00.

58 degrees and breezy here on the bluff overlooking the lake but the
view is great. Plugged in the Directv and had an instant picture. No
more looking for that hole in the leaf canopy. Verizon has 3 of 4 bars
and I can certainly live with that.

Had a fat pork chop for lunch, marinated in pineapple juice and
habanero jelly. Delicious.
Now for a short snooze and I will be ready to tackle various chores.

The fishing opener (one of the most important dates in Minnesota) is
tomorrow. The goddam fishing rules now run 80 pages and take a lawyer
to clarify. Long lists of lakes where you can only keep runt fish and
anything else has to be tossed back.

A new feature: A "conservation" license at the bargain price of $11
instead of $17. You can only catch half of the usual limit. However
where the limit is 3 fish (like Northern Pike) you can only keep 1
fish. I'm sure the Crappie Cops will be busy trying to enforce that
one.

I bought a fishing license in MT a few years back. There you had to buy
a "conservation" license. All it permitted you to do was to purchase a
hunting or fishing license! I think the rule book there was well over 80
pages. You had to know what river you were on and where you were on that
river so you could look up the rules where you were fishing. Fortunately
the rules only changed where a highway bridge crossed the river, so you
could tell where the rules changed. Oh, if you wanted to fish in lakes,
that required an additional permit. For us out of state folks the
conservation license, fishing license and the lake permit added up to
about $75.

Been there, done that. Some years I bought non-resident fishing
licenses in 7 states.
If you fish the Colorado rive between AZ & CA, both sides want money
and the license isn't good in the rest of AZ.

Lake Texoma on the Red River between OK and TX used to require a TX
license for the part in TX and an OK license for the part in OK. A
number of years ago they changed it so that those fishing from a boat
could fish the entire lake with either license. Then they went even
further, if you are 65 or older and have a OK license you are good for
all of TX and a Texan over 65 with a TX license is good for all of OK.

There are several states that have such a reciprocity agreement with Texas. Unfortunately Minisoda isn't one of them. When we first started wintering in Texas, a non-resident license was $15 for the annual, now it's $55.

However their fishing rules are very liberal compared to MN and so are their possession limits on fish. Used to be 50 catfish, I don't know if that has changed or not but it was the reason I put a freezer in our 2nd motor home. :) No way could I put on a fish fry for the neighborhood with what MN allows......unless everyone brought their own fish.
