I downloaded and installed the XP Mode Virtual Machine for Windows 7. Once you've got the program, about 500 megs and then install it, it looks and runs just like XP, only in a window on the screen. You can full screen the window so that you don't see any of the Win 7 screen or keep it in a smaller window. Once installed you have to install the programs you want to run in XP while in XP mode. For anyone who really loves Outlook Express, it's there and ready to use.

I really don't have any programs I need to run in XP, but I'm keeping it there just in case I need to experiment.

Note, this feature is available only in the Pro and Ultimate version of Win 7 only, and you should test your computer to see if you can even run the program before taking the time and bandwidth to download it. You should have 3GB of RAM available.

I spent most of my working career using computers from DEC (Digital Equipment Corp.), bought out by Compaq and later HP. All application software written 30 years that didn't use privileges to bypass the OS will still run unmodified on today's version of the OS, even without having to recompile. MS copied a lot from DEC in their early years. They even lured away some top software engineers. Too bad they didn't copy the upward compatibility idea. (MS even used DEC computers to run their business until the late 1990s.) Just my $.02.

I know you said something, I'm just not sure what you said applies to what I wrote and if so, how.
