It is highly likely illegal aliens will not pay into the plan but will
receive care anyway.
In fact, Dems rejected an amendment that would have expressly forbidden
illegals from being covered in the plan, and since hospitals are forbidden
from asking about immigration status, that means illegals will use the
program.
President Obama repeated his claim that no one will lose existing
coverage. He cannot possibly know. If businesses decide it is cheaper
to dump employees into the government plan they will do so in mass.
Hmmmm, lets see, it costs employers 15% of their income to insure their
employees, and 8% in penalty taxes to leave them uninsured, and on the
government program. Which do you think they will choose?
Reality: Obama says he will pay for the bulk of the increase in
spending by rooting out $500 billion in Medicare waste. Does anyone
really believe that? If there were really $500 billion in waste
wouldn't that have been an issue before now?
Remove $500 billion from funding, and add millions of new patients. Yeah,
sure, I can see how that would improve the quzality of care, without any
rationing necessary. (note - sarcasm included)
Recent history says otherwise about cost projections. Any major piece
of legislation cost's projections are bull***. Remember what Bush
projected the cost of the Prescription Drug program? $400 billion was
projected, but in reality the costs are closer to $720 billion.
Reality in politics is an oxymoron. Their only reality is tomorrows
elections.
Why would liberals care about reality - they want control, not coverage.
If providing coverage for the currently uninsured was the issue, why not
permit interstate insurance sales (promoting competition).
Or, (although not a plan I would endorse) why not simply change the
qualifications for Medicaid so that people with pre-existing conditions
would qualify? That would eliminate the problem without taking over one
fifth of the economy.
