: When you buy a book, or a CD, or as in the past, a vinyl record, you
: expect that item to continue working for as long as you own it.
:
: This DRM crap was a conception of Microsoft and in my opinion,
: violates the very law it was designed to uphold.
:
: If you attempt to play music that is in the wma format, and you

: As far as I am concerned, both the RIAA and MPAA are trying to control
: the copyright laws. Copyright law says that if you buy a copyrighted

: You can legally give away copies all you want. And that is what the
: RIAA is bitching about. They feel that to many people are giving away

: did not obtain these copies legally. How do they know I didn't legally
: pay for them? They don't.
:
: They'd just as soon as waste the court's time to make a few bucks for
: and in behalf of the RIAA. Do you think the artist is gonna get a dime
: of that money? Oh you just won the lottery eh? Yeah right.

"You can legally give away copies all you want"

I'm afraid that's not the way it works. You have rights under 'first sale'
to make a copy for archival purposes unless the license states otherwise.
You do not have right to duplicate for the purposes of distribution, even a
one off for free.

I'm not an IPR lawyer or any lawyer for that matter but I've made my living
from my IPR for over 50 years.
