I copied only the .est file from the old drive, reinstalled the software, which is S&T 2005 (onto Windows Vista Home Premium) with a full installation (no need for CD to run). Pushpins can be placed in a New document but not in the existing one that I copied over.
Any ideas I can pass on?

Copying files to a new drive really does't work, since required data is not
saved to the Registry. You have to use the install disk to accomplish that.
After buying each news addition of Streets and Trips since 2001,
Microsoft's effort to introduce their ACTIVATION nonsense, which didn't
even work for legitimate customers, I have little interest in protecting
Microsoft's interests. If you are at all familiar with Torrnets, a working
copy of Streets and Trips 2009 that doesn't require any kind of ACTIVATION
is available for download absolutely free at:
http://thepiratebay.org/search/streets/0/99/300
Enjoy!
Thanks. The guy has just found that copying all the pushpins from the copied file into the new one has solved the problem.

Theory don't mean squat if it don't work.
