Hi Gang,

I left Ocala this morning and drove all the way to Tifton,
GA....<g>

Usually, a two day trip! 187 miles..... yikes.

Why? I have to be in Sullivan, IL next Thursday so I'm pushing
it....

Anyway, all of a sudden the power went off at the campground this
evening... grrr

So, management called an electrician and we all went to discuss
what was happening.

Seems it was the fault of the MH next door who was running both of
his air conditioners on 30 amps. He then plugged into 50 amps and
the problem was solved. Then the electrician did some stuff and
the MH owner said, "Can I go back on 30 amps now?"

My questions... why wouldn't he just stay on 50? Why did he want
30?

Also, he said 500 amps is 220... I've never had 50 amps, are they
220?

Hunter

Yes, a 50 amp service is 220 or more than likely 240 volts. It
works just like a house. Two legs of 120 volts each that when both
legs are tapped measure 240 volts. Take a look at my electrical
conversion:

No it is not.

You will have to ask the campground if that is the case or not.

The amperage at the box at the site is determined by the supply feed
from the main junction off the street. They could make it 200 amps
if they wanted and still would be 110.

Since most RV's don't require much more than 50, than that is what
campgrounds offer as a convenience.

I took a quick look at your photos. What you are calling a 50 amp
wire in the top set, is not. Unless you connected all the
individual cables together to make one. Even then, 50 amps would be
pushing the limits.

Can you plug a 110 volt item into a 220volt outlet? Not likely as
the connectors are totally different. And no, you can't simply
split 220 to 110 with simple cord adapters either.

Come back when you have an idea what you're talking about.

I have a background in electronics sir. I once designed a two way
radio amplifier and had the designed checked by a licensed technician.
He said not only would it work, but it would be a damn good amp. The
problem I had with it was finding the transformer I needed.

I also held an FCC 2nd class radio license for 5 years.

Let me know when you can plug a 110 volt tv into a 220 volt socket.

I never said a person could do anything like that. What I said and what is a
fact is that a 50 amp RV setup is 240 volt. More accurately it is a 120/240
volt system. I showed the entire process on my web site and the fact that
you held an FCC radio license for five years means nothing. You're proving
that every time you post on this subject. You seem to know nothing about 3
wire, single phase, center tap neutral power systems.
