You all know about my incessant power leak - a tenth of a volt a
day, every day. Drip, drip, drip.
But then my Shurflo house water pump quit working. I have power
to the pump, but no workee. So I ordered another for 60 bucks.
Then yesterday my Shurflo exhaust fan quit. I thought it was the
battery in the remote, but no, it's up there somewhere. Maybe
the rain sensor. It has been raining the last two days.
One thing after another. At least I'm not on a trip.
But back to the power leak. It turns out the fuse to the dome
light is not it. I took the fuse out for two days and the
battery still leaked down.
That's the infuriating thing about this power leak - it comes and
it goes. Sometimes while I'm working on it. The in series amp
test reads 100 mA, then 60 mA, then 200 mA, then 170 mA, them 0,
all while I'm watching, over maybe 10 seconds. Removing the
fuses one bt one turned up only one thing, the dome light fuse,
and that turned out to be a false lead.
The usual suspect, the battery, is an Optima red top only two
months old, and every time I have it checked it reads good. Not
just good, but excellent. I even unhooked it overnight, and for
the first time in days it did not go down.
Is it possible for a battery to go bad in such a way that it only
leaks down when hooked up? And yet it's still the fault of the
battery? How does that make sense?
Bob, going to war with the Shurflow fan this morning.
I'm not sure if anyone has touched on this, and you seem to be on the
right path. I had a similar problem, and was able to diagnos by
removing one fuse each episode and replace it after having ruled out
each fuse. I was able to narrow it down to a faulty radio. It took
about two months, but I got it. It was better than some mechanic
replacing the entire harness and not guaranteeing the problem will be
solved.
