Re: OT ~ The Obama Economy

The only thing I can see that Obama has gotten wrong in his short
tenure is that the same bastards that brought us this disaster
are still running the banks, the same bastards are on the boards,
and the banks have not yet been broken up into pieces of a size
that won't be "too big to fail."

It is the banks that have undermined capitalism.

And as for crying, it is the business sector, specifically
finance, that has been doing all the crying for Daddy to give
them ever greater wads of cash.

So far, that's the crying that is being heard and rewarded. I am
reminded of certain gulls that always lay 3 eggs but can only
provide enough fish to raise one young. The first one to hatch
always throws the others out of the nest.

So let them cry. The only reason to feed a crying baby is to make it more
dependant on you. Most parents learn after a few months that it's far
better to teach the little snots to hold a fork.

I don't see those CEOs as being evil like you do. But on the rest I think
we are in agreement. Let those banks learn to adjust. They will figure out
on their own that it might be in their best interest to break them up. But
if gov't gives them more money they see no real incentive to doing that.

Some other things Barack and company have wrong is creating a climate that
makes business fear success. Success is what drives growth in our economy.
You have to ask yourself at some point, what benefit does Barack Obama
derive from making business fear success (higher tax rates on wealthy...cap
and trade regs). What agenda is he ultimately pushing. It looks an awful
lot to me like he wants big business to be dependant on government so he can
control big business. To a socialist that sounds great. You probably
support such a scenario so we can regulate business so they don't make so
much excess profits. Makes sense to a liberal. What it doesn't make sense
to is a capitalist. And without capitalists you will end up with an economy
that doesn't grow. The government will have to pay those who can't find a
job. they will start by hiring them to do social jobs...inspect child
rearing...inspect OSHA requirements...inspect housing...inspect RV parks...
They next thing you know, we have government worker mentality with 40
holidays, paid health care, pensions...oh it sounds so good. And what you
won't have is capitalism...which drives growth.

I support capitalism. I know I might be wrong. But I believe I am right.
I am a fair employer and my employees will tell you that. I expect hard
work and in return I offer a good wage, competitive so that I know I can
hire the best...so I can outperform my competitors. And most employers are
like me. Some are not. We create regulations based on the few who are not
fair that ultimately penalize those who are fair. We create a disincentive.
Crying baby syndrome. Full circle.

Heck, Nate. Obama supports Capitalism. We all support
Capitalism, except maybe the bankers. Obama's tax plan returns
us to the situation at the end of the Reagan Administration. I
seem to remember Capitalists doing all right back then. They
were doing pretty good during the Kennedy and Johnson
administrations, too, for that matter.

The thing about greed, though, is that the only natural end to it
is when it blows up in your face. Read the headlines for
examples. You need a grownup in charge now and then.

One of the things that is hardest about talking to a Wingnut is
the way they have of going off the deep end when they receive the
slightest criticism. If you want good health care you're a
socialist.

If I want good healthcare I call my doctor and ask for it. No one called me a socialist.

If you want the working man to share a little more in
the wealth of the nation, you're a communist.

Working men have the ability to share in the wealth of our nation. What is your point?

If you are in
favor of well funded public education you're an ignoramus.

I must be an ignoramus. Bruce keeps telling me I am wrong on this part too. Now you? Great. I just don't see anything wrong with investing in education. What I see wrong is wasting money on a fgailed system with no intentions of fixing the problems...or acknowledging the problems. Let business run education and get the government out of business. It will fix itself or it will fail.

Guilty on all counts, I guess.

This guy has my take on Republicans right now:

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it...these are not partisan issues. I disagree with Barack not because he is a Democrat and I a Republican. I disagree with many of his proposals because I think they are wrong. But you seem to be stuck on politics. You go ahead and throw your temper tantrums and see how far it goes. Republicans were just as at fault as Democrats. And vice versa. We need a new party. A party that wants to represent the people of this country rather than their political party. Then we can debate the issues behind each policy rather than the political figures that present them.

And debate is a good thing. It's healthy. We need more of it.
