Some background: Some years ago my original converter in my 91 Southwind
died. (it was the original). I replaced it with a Progressive Dynamics 40
charger (no converter) and ran off the batteries and charger. It has a
charge wizard. My 4 6 volt batteries are about 6 years old, and because of
use, neglect, abuse, and general age are due for replacement. My PD charger
is also showing it's age. The fan isn't working right. I called PD, and they
said the charger isn't being made any more, nor would they repair it. No
complaints here. Both batteries and charger have given me good service.

So, do I replace exactly what I have; do I buy a new converter/charger (say
60 amps w/Wizard); or are there other options? If I do get a converter, I'd
like to locate it in the same storage compartment that I've been using. The
original converter was inside the coach. That space has long since been
used. The batteries are in a box with a lid, vented to the outside. Seal may
not be perfect, but is pretty good. Only problems in the past was the
electrolyte boiled out when stored for a prolonged time. (some of the
neglect!!!)

Jim,

I replaced the original equipment Parallax 55 amp because it was
boiling the batteries dry with a Progressive Dynamics with Wizard 80
amp and that eliminated my problem, I think neon John and I did it
about the same time. And you might check and see if they have some
reconditioned units like I did.
