As I was leaving, I set the Sony Playstation 3 to copying 25 GigYou said you were going to copy stuff from your laptop.
of music files wirelessly through the network from my laptop.
Figgered it would be through by the time I got back.
1) Could your laptop have been buffering the cable to your playstation? I can move a megabyte in a few seconds off the cable, and that's through my WiFi link to the cable modem, some ~20 or so meters away.
2) Were you by any chance linking with an neighbors WiFi?
And in regards to "Peter Pan's" reply a few notes down, about how seriously to watch movies
"slow" WiFi is, I don't know why you think wireless is so slow. Slower than a cable? Almost for sure. But I use my system to watch "24" direct from the Fox website with crystal clear pictures and stereo, and it's all over the wireless link to the house that I set up for myself.
L8r all,

I'm sure many here think that Peter Pan is full of it, try it for yourself, after all, you will believe it a lot more doing it yourself, rather than hearing it from me or a salesperson.... even on cable/dsl/sat try and download 250 smaller 1kb/mb files/time it, now do one 250kb/mb file, time it...The time diff between one big file and 250 smaller files, should give you an idea of the speed diff not tranferring data, but the time needed for headers/creating directory entries/getting file allocation/space needed for the 250 files etc..... once you have the files locally, try it via network (wired((hardware handshaking)) and/or wireless((software handshaking)) ).. or for that matter zip a bunch of small files and see how much faster a zip/one big file xfers, against a bunch of small ones.....
As for wireless vs cable, even 20 (if using a repeater) is faster than the 10-12-16 that cable provides, and you will be limited to the slowest thing, in this case the cable/dsl.... opposite of what you said "almost for sure" above
know anyone with sat? they can download a big file real fast, but ask em about web pages that have small links that get small packets of info on each page...... that will give you an idea about thruput/slowdown and toggling between xmit and receive
it's simply amazing to me that some users don't want to understand why things are slow, but just spend money on something with a bigger number cuz the salesman said it would fix it...
ps, flash video of 24 on the fox website is way slow, you can watch with a tethered cell phone on 1x, even the HD stuff works with a tethered cell....
got an s-video connector on your laptop (some do some don't), and one on your tv? (most lcd and plasmas have em) you can cable via svideo from many newer laptops to tv to watch on a bigger screen.... I use it to watch things on tv when I have free wifi both in the rv and at home, or tethered cell phone during free time....
