The stock market represents investors looking for a way to make profits. When it grows, they put money in. When it recedes they take money out. It's been working that way for a long time now.
Actually many invest on the EXPECTATION that certain segments will grow and put money in when it recedes. Buy low, sell high is standard advice.
No one worth their salt invests on news of a president being sworn in.
If they have faith that he will keep the promises he enunciated they will. How much money did you put in alternative energy stocks today? Supposed to be one of his top priorities.
Not all today, but so far I have invested close to a half million including salaries and supplies. The profits will be taken by my graduates. I hope to get some rebates on the installation though.
Then you are ignoring your own advice below.
When he gets into office and creates policy that affects a particular industry, then the investors will react to him. And there will be some opportunities to profit from this guy. A smart investor will listen to his direction and see where he plans to shovel money and make decision based on that.
That is how the dot com and housing bubbles were created. You can participate by investing in wind, solar and hybrid cars which will all do well with subsidies but will crash when it is learned that there will never be a "break-even" point.
Ah...a Nah-Sayer!
Naysayer? Actually a truth-teller. We'd be way ahead investing in nuke plants instead of wind and solar.
The fact that I hate welfare and socialism will not stopme from looking for ways to profit.
Be sure to jump off early enough to avoid the crash with reality.
I jumped off the last one early enough. You have doubts in my ability to predict the bottom? Lots of people doubted me last time. Those who followed my advice did well.
So you want to have another boom and bust only in a different segment of the economy? The overall economy doesn't matter as long as you benefit?
Those who are whining about losing their ass in the present market had the same philosophy as yours.
Not all of them.
They may not have bailed in time but their philosophy of riding the boom is the same.
