I wonder if the problem is File System Format related, i.e. FAT32 vs
NTFS. I'm guessing your Toshiba drive was NTFS, so you could use long-
format filenames.

DOS pre-dates NTSC by a fair bit...

I would have thought Vista would still recognize Fat32.

The Toshiba was NTFS, before CopyWipe got hold of it. All my
drives are. CopyWipe was not supposed to change that, but it
could have. But it gave no indication. I'll delve further in
the help docs and see if I can find something.

I think that your problem is that copyWipe wiped your master boot record (MBR)
and/or the partition table.

XXcopy will fix all that and more. If it's just the partition table that's
missing, see if you have the equivalent of control panel->administrative
tools->computer management->drive management.

Yes. Thank you, John. I was unaware of this utility. I'm used
to formatting things from Windows Explorer, which didn't
recognize the drive. This Utility did. The volume was RAW. It
is now happily formatting as NTFS. When it gets through, I'm
gonna give it a shot at the ruined flashdrive.

One of the most confusing things about Windows is that there are
usually three or four ways to do anything - and often they don't
all have quite the same effect.

BTW, I bought another one of those 8 Gig flashdrives today at
Sam's. They are only 30 bucks. They were over twice that when I
bought the first one.

Now I need to buy a 250 gig hard disk for a clone, and a couple
of those little enclosures for the small drives, and all will be
well.

XXcopy is awaiting refinement at a 64bit utility. Probably won't
be long. Everything is going that way.
