Being the total dish dumbass, I just have to ask, what the heck does
that mean? Does "3/5" mean that there's five outputs on three of
those little biscuit low noise receivers or is that truly a fraction
or something else?
It's a dish with five lnbs, that look like 3. I'll put up some pictures
today. It picks up 5 satellites, but I really only need 3 to get what I
need, which is a bunch of HD channels plus the east and west coast feeds in
SD and the west coast in HD. I don't qualify for, or get local channels.
The only real problem is that the DTV DVR does not have a coax cable
outlet, so I had to go to Radio Shack to get an adapter to go from
RCA Video, to coax. I told the guy at the counter what I needed, and
he started to give me a lecture on why I couldn't see HD on a non HD
TV.
Ahhhh, another one of those RadioShack moments that you can remember
and cherish for the rest of your life. How do they manage to find
such dumbasses for ALL their stores? (Man, I can't believe that
certain word was in the dictionary of the speech software.)
bill is dictionary famous. :-)
Geez, you know, if you'd been in the area to show me your SX10, I'd
have given you a modulator. I just found several in a box of Junque
that I was going through. That sounds like a pretty good deal - a
1500 mile trip in return for $40 modulator. Plus my scintillating
conversation, of course :-)
At the rate the price of gas is going down it might have been cheaper. :-)
I was in the local Target store last weekend and got a good look at
several of the HD flat-panel displays/TVs. They were so purty that I
almost wanted one. If only there were anything to watch...I am going
to have to get me about a 42 inch screen to use as a computer monitor
if my eyes don't slow down. Bob, does your TV have a computer input,
an XGA type connector (or whatever they call them nowadays) and if
so, how does it work as a monitor?
This one has a VGA and 3 HDMI inputs. My vidio card has 2 outputs, one DVI
and one VGA, and can support 2 monitors. I have the 19" using the VGA and
ran a DVI to HDMI cable to the HDTV. When I want to use the HD TV as a
monitor I just change the input on the TV to HDMI 2 (it has 3 HDMI inputs,
and one VGA but I already had the DVI to HDMI cable), and I've got a 32"
monitor. What I use if for right now is to show pictures when I have company
that wants to see some of my images, like the bears in YNP. From time to
time I also use the TV so I can share youtube or other videos with Mary.
They are, and I think you could use one as a monitor with your laptop. Just
It seems to me from just casually glancing around, that the
large-screen TVs are actually cheaper than equivalent size computer
monitors. Is that the case, or do I have a mistaken impression?
make sure it has the right connections. You can also plug in your sound
system to the HDTV and feed it through a surround sound, if you have one.
I'll include a picture of the monitor with that close up of the old video
card that I sent you, but there are a couple of black chips on the board
that have WK3 on them. They are side by side on the board, and if I use
ACDSee to zoom in on one at 300%, it is 12" long in the TV screen. At 100%
it is 4" long. My point of focus was the letter/numbers in the box, L1006,
and below or beside that L1003. At 100% the 1 is about 1 1/4" high.
I love technology. :-)
