I agree. The educational system currently sucks. It prepares
children to be a poor english major. That does not leave many folks
much of an option these days.

Let's see, learned electronics with vacuum tubes. Relearned with
transistors. Ditto integrated circuits. Switched to computers. Would
be looking for a new field because computers would be throw away's
like TV's if Microsoft wasn't so greedy. Basic understanding of
physics and chemistry in regard to troubleshooting skills is always in
demand, just physically getting harder to get/make parts or paid to
install them.

I have a flash. Computers ARE throw away's. You say MS is greedy in
the face of Apple not allowing outside software vendors w/o expensive
licensing and computers that cost the same as PCs to build but sell
for 3-5 times as much with damn little improvement.

BTW, the MS "Greed" is ridiculous. There are at least 3 free OSs for
the PC frame.

MS is greedy in 3 ways.

1. They cut deals with the manufacturers basically forcing them to
sell a microsoft OS on every unit sold. Yes, there are some
exceptions but the fact that there are exceptions proves the rule.

2. At the same time Balmer was pushing out Vista at a significant
price increase over XP he was whining that hardware prices had not
dropped enough.

3. It uses every trick it can find to scuttle or limit the other
OS's.

Apple is a bit of a different fish. I do not like them and do not use
their products. At the same time I recognize that the reason they are
what they are is that they have sufficient control to assure top shelf
hardware in all their machines.
