An enlisted man saying he's going to resign makes no point, since he
can't leave until his enlistment is over. It's not much of a
statement if he still has 2 years or so to serve before he can leave.
You are missing the point (purposely, I suspect). The guy is leaving
the military at first opportunity, as are a number of the military of
all ranks, because of BO.

So what. A lot of guys leave the military for whatever the reason. A
Staff Sergeant saying he's going to resign, is ludicrous. He CAN"T
resign. He's like a prisoner doing 10 years saying at 9 years and 11
months and 29 days saying, "I'm breaking out of here tomorrow!" BFD.
They will release him when his time is up.
