Paul,

As you've seen in this thread, there are people with hair-trigger chips on
their shoulders just looking for some reason to be annoyed.  Fortunately there
are far fewer of them out there in the real world.

I judge generator use by context and by who was there first.  If I'm the only
MH in a CG and everyone else is in tents then I obviously won't run it at
night and as little as possible in the daytime, even though mine is quite
quiet.

OTOH, If a group of tenters moves in around me then I figure that they know
(or should know) that MHs have generators and therefore they've decided that
the primo camping spots near me is worth the noise.

I do try to pick the slot that is farthermost away from existing campers and
anticipated ones.  Again, if they move into a slot beside me, they've made the
decision that the spot is worth the noise.

Interestingly enough, I seldom make the most noise.  Tenters, particularly
young ones, make all sorts of noise, from their stereos to their chain-saws,
to their screaming kids and yes, generators.  I camped next to a guy recently
who had a window AC unit stuck through his tent flap, operated by a
contractor's generator!  I finally asked him if he'd like to plug into my
generator so we both could enjoy some peace and quiet.  He GLADLY took me up
on my invitation.

I'm a MYOB type so I'd never bitch with one exception.  Loud rap. :-)  That
has to go!  I'd rather listen to that contractor's generator!

I get a LOT more noise and vibration inside my rig than what radiates outside.
Sometimes I'll start feeling like I'm being too noisy.  Going outside and
walking around, especially to other nearby campsites, invariably relieves that
anxiety.

Thanks John,

I know others in this group may jump on me, but I respect your opinion
and enjoy reading your threads. I've learned alot from you and your
web site and feel that you bring alot of knowledge to this group. I
may not always agree with you, but I respect your opinion.

That being said, I always walk around the campground while my
generator is running. My coach is a 2000 NRV SeaView and I keep my
stuff running well. The generator is a Generac and I have not had any
issues with it to date. Not smoke, no skipping/popping or rev'ing up
or down. I even use your suggestion for starting the genny. Push the
start button 3 times to prime then the 4th time on the start button
and she cranks over. My wife thought I was a genuis, but I gave
credit where credit was due.

The reason why I asked the question is because I wanted to make sure
that I wasn't being un-reasonable with running my generator. I
observe all rules with regards to quiet time. As a matter of fact, I
will not run my generator from start of quiet time to end of quite
time, I've seen others that do. I just run it enough to do what I
have to do then shut her down. I feel I'm being reasonable. I just
didn't want someone coming over to me and telling/demanding that I
shut it down. I'm just checking to make sure that I'm being
reasonable and not a jerk.....
I try my hardest to be a good camper.
