Herbert's review of the debate certainly made it clear just what he
thinks Gov Palin's all about!
It's no wonder he's paid well for his writing, even though my
favorite editorial writers are Garrison Keillor, and Leonard Pitts!
Maybe TB is right, and Palin is a reflection of our collective
"self", or at least, our majority "self", as envisioned by Lon, LZ,
Bruce, BILL P. and other clueless followers of the status quo?
They probably think that if Palin gets to be the Vice Prez, she will,
"teach society a good lesson!" HawHawHaw!
She's a reflection of a segment of our collective self. Out of the guys
you name Bill is probably the only one who would be at home at a Sarah
Pallin rally. For the rest of them it would be like attending a professional
wrestling match. The fans are people they normally wouldn't hang out with.
She represents the chronically poorly qualified. People who thought Hee Haw
was the ultimate in entertainment. She's Mrs. Joe Six-pack. Which is a hoot
when you know those guys. A lot of them figure a woman's place is in the
kitchen making half-time snacks.

"But the one and only pre-election California trip by Palin, who has touted
her connections to "Joe Six-Pack" voters, actually had the Alaska governor
scheduling substantially more time with the Joe Chardonnay crowd at
high-priced political fundraisers in the nation's political ATM state.
She spent 24 minutes addressing the crowd and 15 minutes afterward posing
for photos and signing autographs at the rally in Carson. But that was a
stop on her way to star at a pricey 90-minute fundraiser at the Costa Mesa
Performing Arts Center, where donors were encouraged to write checks of up
to $40,800 per person to the Republican National Committee, the state GOP
and the McCain-Palin Victory fund. Today, she is to appear in Burlingame at
another high-end fundraiser, an invitation-only event for affluent GOP
donors.
Palin scheduled no time for questions from reporters in Carson, and is not
scheduled to speak to the press in her Bay Area stop, the campaign said."
[snip]
"Palin, in her address, repeatedly - and to the crowd's delight - jabbed at
the media. In a reference to her interview with Couric, she said that she
had been "flippant" in some answers, but didn't think the questions were
very relevant. "Oh, come on, let's start talking to the American people
about the issues that you guys want to know about," she said to cheers.
Peppering her speech with folksy sayings and references, she had the crowd
chanting and cheering her on as she told the Carson audience that "our
opponents take this state and all of you for granted. ... But I've got some
news ... for millions of Californians, this is still Reagan country."
Palin's speech was interrupted several times by protesters who shouted
slogans and were escorted out of the arena as the crowd drowned out their
shouts with "U-S-A!"
But the GOP vice presidential candidate also hit hard on issues, like taxes
and offshore oil drilling, even leading the audience in a chant of "Drill,
baby, drill!" "
If she comes to town I gotta go see it. It has to be an entertaining
show. I'm not all that interested in seeing Sarah. It's the audience I want
to see.
