Do you think her fans really can't see what a phony she is, or do
they just hate liberals so bad they don't care that she's an airhead,
swept up by raw ambition, and fate, far beyond her performance
ability?
She isn't a phony. She is a real hockey mom. Hockey mom's don't know
about the details of government. They know what they like and they know
what
they don't like. That's all that really matters.
Then there are no standards we can hold a President to?
You live in a democracy. You can hold them to getting sufficient
electorial votes.
Even an inhabitant of Bedlam and the drooling druggie rotting at
the curb knows "what they like and what they don't like".
Yeah, but if you worry about that you aren't going to make a very good
populist.
From the Song of Tom O'Bedlam:
"From the hag and hungry goblin
that into rags would rend ye,
and the spirit that stands by the naked man
in the book of moons, defend ye,
that of your five sound senses
ye never be forsaken,
nor wander from yourselves with Tom
abroad to beg your bacon."

[Not my favorite version, but there are a lot of different ones floating
around. To sup with Humphry means you went hungry.]
"That's all that really matters" ???
To the populists. She's the pinup girl for people who don't know all
that much. All they know is that they're mad as hell. They know what they
like and they know what they don't like. From their point of view everything
else is just window dressing. "The staff will take care of it."

"Politics is getting like Medicine, we will eventually need
"specialists", rather than one guy/girl that does it all. Oh that's
right, that is the reason for a STAFF. So it really doesn't matter
does it? What matters is the people on the staff."
Hank nails it right here. It doesn't matter if she's unqualified.
That's what we have staff for. Never mind that she has no basis to know if
her staff is giving her the right answers.
So she has no responsibility at all? And therefore neither do
the voters?
See, now there you go with that blame game stuff again. All of that
responsibility stuff is for after things get screwed up. Apparently you
haven't seen enough movies. A good heart ALWAYS wins in the end.
The smart people, the elites, got us into this mess. The 'C' students
are going to fix it. Never mind that it's a damn fine mess and most us of
have it pretty damn good. Never mind that the 'C' students are 'C'
students
because they weren't all that engaged in their own education.
The Republicans got us into this mess. The Democrats will get us
out of it.
Buzzzzzzzzzz, wrong answer (and bull***). If you keep repeating the
same thing over and over and keep getting the same answer decade after
decade it's time to examine what you're doing. Neither the Dem's or the
Repub's have been doing all that well. I don't believe the problem is with
the people. It's with the system, the process, the way we do things. Look at
us. Everyone is hollering about pork barrel politics and yet what happens.
The bailout gets loaded with pork because that's the way our system works
even though everyone of those fools knows the nation is paying closer
attention than usual.
Look what happens in Mexico. They hire bright idealistic college
graduates to work in their police force. Pretty soon they're as corrupt as
the people they replaced. The problem isn't the people. It goes a lot deeper
than that.
Look at us. We select for liars. We demand it. That's how I know Sarah
Palin is a politician. Her first speech as the VP candidate was full of
lies. The most important question wasn't how honest she was. It was how well
she delivered the lies. It's the same way on both sides of the aisle.
And I love it. Her fans think American politics has become American
Idol:
Just like American Idol they're packing the vote and they think it
means
something.
Gar nails it too:

Damn.. I am enthralled with Sarah.. what an American!!!
Chirpy doesn't wear well. Gag.
Yeah, but he makes a point. For the most part the adulation isn't about
logic. It's about emotional response.
They love her because she's one of us. You can't take that away from
her. As far as they're concerned being unqualified is just another
indication that she's one of us. From their point of view everything that
shows that she isn't a good politician is a good sign. They don't want
another politician. They want someone who's one of us.
I don't. I want somebody smarter than me.
That's it. I give up on you. You're a complete failure as a populist.
