Well, we finally escaped from the South Padre area. Lots of flooding, lots of debris in the roads. There was still no power or water when we left yesterday afternoon. The streets of Harlingen and San Benito were jammed with emergency vehicles and construction crews, so I suspect things will be back on track before too long. On the way out, we passed many convoys of power trucks, construction vehicles, and trucks hauling loads of large generators heading south.
Since it looks like South Padre will be out of commission for a bit, we decided to relocate 100 miles up the coast to North Padre. We're staying at a very nice park, "Pioneer RV Resort", right on the beach near Port Aransas. Very pretty park, wide streets and concrete pads, with a boardwalk over the dunes to the beach. It's not the "friendliest" place we've ever been, though. The ladies in the office are a bit snippy (since they all seem to have upper-Midwest accents we'll have to excuse them; they're obviously not Texans and don't know how Texans usually behave towards each other), there are more rules than the Army, and patrolling enforcers in golf carts looking for an excuse to correct any aberrant behavior (like a parked Jeep with a wheel left half on the grass), but so long as you follow all The Rules and don't have to deal with the staff for anything it's worth a visit.
Shoulda gone about 8 miles down the road to Mustang Island SP. Coulda parked right on the beach - or in the elite area on the land side of the dunes. Nobody bothered me when I was there.

Theory don't mean squat if it don't work.
