Re: OT-National Health Care?

This might have something to do with the fact that health care in the US
cost more and produces poorer results than the rest of the
industrialized world.

You obviously missed the news that Americans receive the best care in the
world for cancer - well, best if results is the measure of quality.

"Though international comparisons are hard to make, Lancet Oncology
published last August a comparison of American and European care, and the
U.S. fared better in 13 of the 16 cancers studied."

"The Lancet Oncology study finds that five-year survival rates for cancer in
men, for example, are 45% in England (slightly higher in Wales, lower in
Scotland) but 66% in the U.S."

Based on the information in the study, is this really the health care system
you want to destroy with your attempts to socialize it?

It is worth noting that one of the reasons that our system provides better
results is that cost is less of a consideration in providing care. In Great
Britain, all care must be proven to be cost effective, or it is disallowed.
thus, those expensive, marginal treatments that could save some lives are
not permitted, and people die. Its nice to know that this is exactly what
American lawmakers want to institute here to bring the cost of care down.
Maybe a few more people will die, and you will be happy knowing that they
received the best care the government was willing to grant them, and that
care was given at the lowest possible price.
