LOL, what a hoot! Jan objecting to "greenhouse gases". "GH gases" is
going to be part of how they get the nuclear plants built. We're offering
billion$ in subsidies, and while the industry is moving, no one has
committed to building a new plant because of the economics. For anyone
who's
interested in something other than partisan "Green Boogieman" propaganda
here's the sort of stuff our congress critters are reading

You may stick your head in the sand if you wish as
you and others have done now fro decades. I did
not write those articles, as you say, about
"objecting to greenhouse gasses." However, any sane
person on this planet wants the planet to be clean.

But can you really stop any perceived deadly tide?
Read this NYT article where the author says there IS no
green revolution:

LOL, I hope you weren't surprised by this news.

Head in the sand? Did you read the link I provided?http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RL33442.pdf

We are most likely getting some new nuclear plants, in about a decade.
If it wasn't for $ubsidies it would probably take even longer--because of
the economics of the situation. For once it's a subsidy that I think I agree
with. But, we aren't going to get the sort of panic building your propaganda
piece so shrilly calls for. No one is willing to spend that sort of money
for that much excess capacity at this point. All of the energy whining isn't
about availability, it's about the price. If we panic buy this and that,
that money is added to whatever else we spend for energy. With panic
building the total bill is guaranteed to go up.

I don't buy that, TB. The ecofreaks are flat guilty on this.
They have caused the stall in building while other countries
wisely built clean energy.

If we want truly cleanest energy independence from foreign
oil we have to do this. You are not seeing the connection.
We are currently using dirty fossil fuel plant energy to
fool ourselves by building what the Goreists proclaim
as green and clean items such as etthanol and cars
such as electric cars. Or for that matter any type of
manufacturing.

As example, for hybrid cars such as Prius and the
Ford Excape are perceived to be green. But are they
really? What I found far more interesting is a claim that,
due to the mining and manufacturing of the sophisticated
battery, the overall environmental impact of the Prius is
greater than a conventional vehicle (Land Rover was mentioned).

Then you have the problems of reclaiming the millions
of tons of batteries and other parts in these new "green
machines."

The point is that we need as much nuclear as we can get
to make new technologies that many times are not really
green because of the crap spewed into the atmosphere
from creating them or the fuel to run them.

It's not excess power thus viewed. France and other nations
have been smart enough to ween off of dirty power plants
over decades to get much more towards being "really green."
We need to replace the oil, cola and other power plant fuels
with the cleanest and cheapest over the long haul. That
would be nuclear.

Power from wind, solar and hydro can contribute. But wind
and solar will never be anywhere nearly as cheap or be
able to produce anywhere nearly enough. I don't know the
calulation. But figure out how much it would cost to blanket
the entire Mohave Desert with Solar Panels. Then figure how
much power that would give you. Then figure out how much
it would cost to do periodic replacement of panels. Then
tell me about panic building and the cost.

The friggin politicians bluster about wind and solar all the time
which is FAR FAR more expensive for what it will produce.
THEY still have their heads where it's very dark. Meanwhile
they have procrastinated us into a corner. This is also about
our economy and our security. If the middle east blows up
into a full blown war and the oil nations there withhold the oil
then what do you propse we do? Punt on third down and
pray for a fumble? That what we are already doing!!!!!
What would a barrel of oil go to? $200? $500?

And answer this. What do these assholes really want that
keep saying we must be green without using nuclear power?
Do they want us on motorscooters? The motorscooter economy?
Rickshaws?

Yeah, building nuclear plants will be more money than it was
when we stopped. A lot more! So ......do you propse we wait
until it doubles or is ten times more?

One more thing. People want to make this political. They want
to draw a line in the sand at our expense. It doesn't have to be.
The first leader that is willing to really make this happen will
be a true hero regardless of party affiliation. But it's beyond
me why these dumb fucks don't get this!!!!! The American
People sure as hell DO get it. It is the current BUZZ that
ain't going away.
