Three ways to get the first new nuclear power plants built very
quickly
Nuclear power is absolutely essential to achieve any long-term energy
independence.
A) Congress and the state governments must authorize and clear the
way for the immediate expansion of existing nuclear power plants
that were originally designed and approved for more reactors than
are operating in these plants today. We could build 40 to 50 new
nuclear reactors at the existing nuclear power plant sites. This
way, no new sites must be selected and approved with long delays and
local opposition. There are dozens of nuclear power plants in the
U.S. that already have the facilities and infrastructure in place
for more nuclear reactors. They were approved long ago. And these
plants are in the regions that need more energy every year. But
these regions have been building more filthy coal burning power plants
that are adding hundreds of millions of tons of CO2 and other
pollutants to the atmosphere each year. Simply expanding the
existing nuclear power plants that have been operating continuously
for over forty years is the biggest reduction of greenhouse gases
that can be accomplished without shutting down the American
economy.
B) The government can build the first new nuclear power plants in
the U.S. at existing government power projects. This should be
the modern ?Apollo Project? or ? Manhattan Project? to build new
energy for the U.S.
LOL, what a hoot! Jan objecting to "greenhouse gases". "GH gases" is
going to be part of how they get the nuclear plants built. We're offering
billion$ in subsidies, and while the industry is moving, no one has
committed to building a new plant because of the economics. For anyone who's
interested in something other than partisan "Green Boogieman" propaganda
here's the sort of stuff our congress critters are reading (again):
