Russert, more than any other newsperson not on FOX, made an effort
(not always but mostly successfully) to puncture balloons and expose
blowhards without regard to race, color, creed, religion, or party
affiliation.

That would be my take as well. He was very agressive with
questioning of anyone who came on his show. Always made
for an interesting show because you never knew what new
information he might get out of someone.
