The really funny part is watching them trying to pretzel themselves and
their logic into being taken as "real" Americans. It would be hilarious,
if it wasn't so sad...

I think you watched too many Joe McCarthy hearings on TV when you were
little.
Um, no m'lady, I didn't get that chance--I'm not *that* old...(:-{})!

But I did get to read all about 'em after the fact. While ol' Joe was wrong
in a few cases, it was frightening how often he was absolutely right, wasn't
it? Or, perhaps, it was his being right so often that's left that bad taste
in your mouth about him...?
