I've only had one problem with the computer since I installed
SP3. I had a crack installed to play one game I downloaded
several years ago (heck, 3 computers ago). The day after I
installed SP3, the crack was missing and the game no longer
worked. I don't know that the two are related, but the timing
is certainly coincidental.

I have noticed one problem, but I'm unable to place the blame on
SP3 yet, because I installed AVG 8 at a bout the same time.

In Firefox, when I go to download something, Firefox freezes and
the only thing that will move is the mouse. It stays frozen
until the download is nearly finished. Again, I can't isolate
the problem.

Another thing I found with AVG 8 is that when I make a Google
search, I get a warning page that I might be a robot and need to
type the letters in the box in to prove that I'm not a robot.
That shit has to go. I won't put up with it.

I run a scan every few months or so. I download the latest
freeAVG, install it, run a scan, then uninstall it.

I use AVG with Vista, have for a year, google all over the place,
and never had a problem. That's what makes computers so much
fun. :o)

Yeah, but AVG 8 Free adds a Spy Ware scanner now, and a few other
things I didn't like, so I went back to version 7.

I'm using 7.5. I just assumed it was the latest, since I'm on
automatic update. So you only had the problem since going to 8?

Yes. It also seemed to slow down browsing since it tries to verify
web sites you got to as not malicious. Firefox already does this, so
that is redundant.

I tried disabling the spy ware portion, but it didn't seem to do any
good. I need to set a restore point, and then see if I can install it
without the spy ware enabled to start with.

You will start getting a pop-up from AVG inviting you to upgrade to 8.
It started on my desktop a couple of weeks ago. It only started on my
laptop last week.

I too had problems after installing AVG 8. Kept loosing icons in tray and
every time I did a search, "safe search" would examine results looking for
unsafe sites. If you are running 3 systems on router, and they all have AVG
8 that's a lot of bandwidth. Also experienced freezes at odd times. So I
downloaded Avira free antivirus on the recommendations of "Windows Secrets"
a newsletter that I subscribe to and it is less intrusive. Not as robust as
AVG, but smaller footprint.
