Re: Zoning board problems

Max, I'd agree except for a couple of things.

First, I don't want the neighbor moving ma and pa into the pop-up in the back yard. Unless you live on a couple of acres and can insulate yourself, you need zoning. Even then, after they move a pig farm 500 yards upwind, you'll suddenly find yourself a convert to zoning. Pigs stink.

Second, your suggestion that they should enforce zoning carefully or consistently isn't wanted or needed. It costs a fortune in taxes, takes people away from other work and we don't need the coercive government. Let them respond only to complaints. The less government the better, right?

Third, you can complain on a violation, just pick up the phone. You can't complain they are too coercive and then complain because they are not coercive enough. They are or they aren't. If the issue is the particular parts of the code that affect you, then get those codes changed that bug you.

You hit on a sore point with me, Lee. They have very similar ordinances here and spotty enforcement.
It annoys the hell out of me that they will pick on an RVer who parks "wrong" but let people get away with junk cars, trashy yards, little or no property maintenance. What affects property values more?
