While we certainly have no shortage of them reading here, there's no
"ass-hole" in the earth in which one can stick a thermometer to find out
what the true temperature is. �So finding this "average temperature" is a
computer problem of incredible magnitude resolving the raw sensor data
derived from a satellite that every 90 minutes flies over sub-arctic
temperatures at the poles and the tropical temps over equatorial areas. �So
the temperature constantly slides from -50 to +100 twice per orbit. �And
somehow we're supposed to glean an average number from that? �On some orbits
it flies mostly over tropical seas, and on others over land, possibly
mountains, and that seems easy to you in terms of how that data is
integrated? �At best any temperature derivation is a guess...albeit a very
good and well thought out guess.

That having been said, it seems that we have detected a very small
temperature up-drift over time. �And now everybody starts running around
screaming "Global Warming is coming! �Global Warming is coming!" �Yes. �The
temperature may have gone up a tick or two, and just like it went up it will
go down over time as well. �That's what "climate" does, it changes..

When combined with the historical record, it becomes quickly clear that
temperatures have been higher and lower, atmospheric CO2 concentrations have
been both higher and lower, and NOTHING in any of that research shows that
the level of atmospheric CO2 causes either the warming or cooling. �So far,
at least, atmospheric CO2 levels ALWAYS FOLLOW the temperature changes (i.e.
temperature always leads the change).

So using and pointing to CO2 and all of this "carbon footprint" mumbo-jumbo
is just that, mumbo-jumbo. �And I get tired of constantly having that sort
of pseudo-science thrown in my face as if it had legs. �Sadly, the ignorant
among us, lacking any modicum of critical thinking �(and *they* are
legion--thanks to our much vaunted education system) cling to and believe
anything they're told. �Ergo, now we have "global warming" and those that
wish to control us and our actions have convinced a large fraction of the
population that it's "our" fault; even while nobody can point to a single,
solitary test or evidence point that can confirm that. �The simple-minded
simply climb aboard convinced that they're right. �That they "know" what's
going on, and are sure and certain that they are somehow 'helping' by buying
into all of that mind-rot.

I have not formed any opinion either way on the subject of what causes
global warming. �I have, unfortunately in the eyes of some, been exposed
to an abundance of material that supports the argument that:

So, by your way of thinking, if something gets repeated often enough (... an
abundance of material ...), it must be true. �Did I get that just about
right? �Something is "true" when it's said often enough or promulgated by
enough folks? �A lie (or stretch or twist of the truth) told often enough
becomes true? �There's a whole school of thought that mirrors your
thinking...it's called propaganda!

1. The planet is experiencing some rather alarming warming.

Please define what temperature the planet should be. �Once you've done that,
tell us if it's moving towards or away from that temperature. �Once you've
determined that, perhaps you would be so kind as to opine upon how large
that rate--whatever it is--must be in order to be called "alarming"? �Please
feel free to give us an example or two that support your findings...

2. The cause is at least partly man made.

As determined how? �By whom? �Using what test(s)? �Can you provide an
example of both "cause" and the effect of lack of said "cause"? �In other
words, tell us what the effect of the cause is, and then show us an example
of where the lack of said "cause" forced a lowering of temperatures. �Always
and constantly eager to learn, I VERY eagerly await your reply...

I welcome references to sources of information that can offer reliable
information on the subject.

I'm surprised at the polarization of opinions and wonder what might be the
reasons for such apparent contradictions.

As others have pointed out, "Follow the money!" �And it should be no
surprise to anyone reading here and elsewhere that the only folks spewing
the global warming nonsense are those that wish to impose further
governmental regulations on others. �That would be those that wish to remove
more "freedoms" from our lives. �Any idea which end of the political
spectrum wants to impose over-all governmental control on all aspects of our
lives? (Hint: the 'socialists' love the idea of being able to do something
about 'global warming'...)

And you wonder why 'right-thinking' folks aren't keen to sign on to that
nonsense...

Beauty! A Dr. Bill kinda gem of a post indeed.

Others here took me to task recently because they say I post too many
posts about Global Warming. I have only started a few of the GW
subjects
here. Meanwhile, others do start GW posts and as long as we hear the
Gore nonsense, folks like Dusty and myself will also comment. Yes,
there is
Global Warming. Periodicaly there always has been and always will be.
However, hot air from Gore's Pie Hole and from his use of huge private
aircraft have nothing to do with that. He still gets to waste huge
tons of
energy from his opulent lifestyle that spews crap into our skies. And
I get
to expend a mere fraction of that in the more frugal style that I
freely chose.

BTW, for those that might have interest in hearing Dr. Bill Wattenburg
on the radio. He can be heard most weekends on Saturday and Sunday
nights on Clear Channel KGO 810 AM. If I remember right the show is
10 PM to 1 AM Pacific Time. At night, KGO can be heard all up and down
the western coast from Mexico to Alaska. It's a REAL Talk Show where
he insists on taking more calls from people than any other talk host
there
is. The subjects are always stimulating and varied all over the lot.
Dr. Bill normally broadcasts from his own property somewhere in the
Sierra Wilderness.
