People should read the Federalist Papers. That will tell you in no
uncertain terms, the reason fot the 2A. I suspect those papers will
be vindicated by the SC in the coming weeks.

The federalists is only one side. Need to read all the papers.

Even the anti-federalists fully understood the reason for the 2nd - in fact,
they were a large part of the reason it was written and included in the
Constitution. (The big difference between the two groups was that the
Anti-Federalists thought the Constitution shouldn't be ratified until there
was a bill of rights.)

And, while knowing what the opposition thought may be nice, their opinion is
meaningless to understanding the Constitution. The only opinion that counts
is that of the winners - you wouldn't read a dissenting supreme court
decision to find out what the winning opinion was.
