I am planning our upcoming trip for 2008. I would like to drive from
Tonopah, NV across the mountains to Mammoth Lakes, CA and then on to
the Yosemite Park. How bad of a climb is it? I am pulling 37'
Montana with my F350 Ford Diesel. Am I going to have problems?
While in Canada last year, we were driving from St Martins, NB toward
Moncton and we experienced some serious hills. Eventually I turned
around and drove back to St John to get on a freeway. I could tell
that the climb was getting to be too much for my Ford. The engine (or
transmission) began to make a different, worrisome sound and I decided
not to take a chance and push it thru those hills.
I am in Mississippi now; this episode was many thousands of miles
ago, and we did plenty of hill climbing since then with no problem,
but nothing like those steep roads out of St. Martins.
Advice anyone? Perhaps to go thru Truckee and then to Yosemite?
Thanks.
Rather a simple assumption, You exceeded the capability of the PSD.
Maybe you could use a cummins.

I'm extremely happy with my 6.0 powerstroke. But everything has its
limits and no need to push it if I have a choice. My Ford tackled
some nasty mountains tru Alaska and Canada and performed superbly. I
just like to treat my equipment with TLC and avoid problem causing
situations. .:-) y
