Hi Don,
The story of the Tower of Babel, if you believe the story
or not, is a parable with a message.

Perhaps Max is speaking about some of this.

When I did a search by entering "American Culture Curriculum in
California Schools"
here is some of what shows up:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=25997

http://www.pbs.org/speak/education/curriculum/high/aae/
(KQED is the San Francisco PBS Station)

http://chavez.cde.ca.gov/ModelCurriculum/Teachers/Lessons/Resources/documents/CEC_Mexican_American_History_H-SS_Curriculum.pdf
(Some may think that the study of "Mexican American Culture" and the
study of Chavez is a correct study of "American Culture," I don't.)

http://www.tau.ac.il/education/toar3/etakzir2001-7.doc
(Do you see anything in there about just plain old "American Culture,"
I don't. Everything has to have other separate labels with them..)

Amazing that when I search using the words "American Culture" it
really doesn't get talked about. Everything is in separate little
piles of
"diverse roots" as though we don't have our own American Culture,
but MUST always turn back to all the separate parts of the melting pot
and never have our own culture. THAT is NOT what our grand writers
of our Consttution had in mind. How in the ever loving hell can we
ever
be "all men are created equal" if we keep clinging to having a bunch
of different cultures on and on and on. When our early immigrants
came here, including my own ancestors, they could not wait to
be part of American Life and Culture. And most of them did it in
their 1st generation or the second for sure with the urging of the
1st.

Then I plugged in:
"Foreign Nations Culture Curriculum in California Schools" and I got
this:

And then I searched for "Teaching Cultural Diversity in California
Schools" and got:

http://www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/showarticle/647
(Gee, lots of concern about "feelings" but little about stuff like
learning the 3 Rs and perhaps the concept of our VERY OWN
AMERICAN CULTURE.)

(Don't ya just love that word "ethnomathematics?")

California teaching touchy feely get back in touch with your way in
the
past roots because we must all feel and touch those roots of our
great
great great grandpa! It will make us all better somehow. Never mind
the
fact that we started our very own American Culture when the Mayflower
landed! And we have our own values and freedoms as set down by
something called the Constitution. And .....like it or not.....our
forefathers were in tune with basic Jedo-Christian ideas and values.

The citizens of the United States of America have the Freedom to
change that if they decide to. And they also have the right to slobber
all over diversity and how bitchin' it is for them. THAT IS what the
fucking California Teachers Union is doing these days. They thrive on
it! They love it! And in the near future Southern California WILL be
Northern Mexico. But I have my Freedom also. And my Freedom says that
all that Anti-American Diversity Crap is a Crock of *** that will eat
our country down the road to nothing.

I respect other cultures. But America has it's own English Speaking
Culture that I embrace as my own. And I truly believe that we have to
get back to melding our peoples into a One Language, One Culture and
Solid Borders. And I deserve for those other cultures that I respect,
to respect my culture.

When I meet a person that has difficulty speaking English, like say
when they come into our retail store. I slow way down and try all I
can to be sure to communicate with them somehow until I am sure we
understand each other. I respect them. In fact, I respect them much
more than multi language people that come in, all speak to me in
English but speak to each other in some other language. They are not
respecting me when they do that. It is rude. Don't tell me that they
are observing their own heritage and roots. That is bull***. It's
flat rude! They all get equal treatment from me. I have been in sales
all my life and know the psychology of "the customer is right." Not to
mention knowing what it takes to be polite and make a close with a
smile. But the first type of person usually makes a better customer
than the second type because they actually try harder at
communicating, have fewer preset notions and seem to have less to
hide. Then there is another type. One of the best types. They are
multi lingual and
they speak in English and their other language and repeat what they
say in both languages. Very respectful. And obviously trying to meld
into what it takes to be an outstanding citizen. They are if anything,
my better. And hopefully my friend.
