I don't listen to the broker anymore. They kept assuring us this was
just a short term thing, a correction, yada, yada.
Just as an exercise, I'm not going to put anyone on a spot.
What do you think about bonds?
Successful investing is about risk tolerance and investment horizon.
Years ago I did a lot of serious research into a varitety of stock mutual
funds. At the end of 2007 I did some analsys, and almost every one of
my funds beat the S&P500 for 1, 3, 5, and 10 year periods.
Food for thought. Many of the stocks in the S&P500 beat the S&P 500. If you invest in a fund that is indexed against the S&P 500, you reduce your risk somewhat. But it is not a hard fund to beat.
I also have
to admit that I had bought some funds in the time period that I had since
sold due to underperformance. History has shown that stocks outperform
all other investments over the long term.
All stocks?
If your investment horizon is
less than 5 years, then stocks are probably not for you.
I've made money on stocks that I sold in under 5 years. I'm not following your logic. But then, I was not schooled in investing so maybe I just don't get the terminiology you use. If it came from a text book then I don't get it.
