The HD and Blu-Ray are the 2 versions of the new high definition DVD
players for playing movies or other recorded programs in high
definition. The HD format can store 30 GB of data and Blu-Ray can
store 50 GB. You can rent or buy these at blockbuster and other
retail and rental stores. Blockbuster has committed to Blu-Ray
titles exclusively and these cost about 50 cents more then standard
titles.
As far as DTV and Dish I would assume that with DVR recording
devices that they rent you would record and playback in high def.
The latest info I have is that Sony's Blu-Ray is winning. About 2.7
million Blu-Rays in households verses 750000 HD DVD.

For a better explaination see: http://tinyurl.com/2fy6d3

Just standin' on the outside looking in and reading some trade rags,
it seems to me like there may not be a winner per se, as there was in
the beta wars. The physical format is the same which means that
player mfrs can include BOTH playbacks in one machine. It may be a
case of Corel vs Illustrator - though incompatible, both thrive in
the market.

Are there any dual-format players on the market yet? They've been
described in the electronic trade press.

Yes, LG makes one and at $999 I'm sure you're racing to the store now to get
one.
