Hi Janet,
Thank you very very much. Being positive and gritting your teeth and
fighting is what you have to do in a case like hers. But prayers and
the good wishes and thoughts of others also mean an awful lot as I'm
sure you know.

They also work. I am a testament to the effectiveness and I will never believe otherwise.

She had melanoma 23 years ago on her leg near her ankle. It came back,
this time in the lymph nodes in her groin area and lower abdomen. They
operated to remove the lymph nodes. She was cut from her lower abdomen
to 5 or 6 inches down the inside of the leg. Then they put her on
intensive interferon treatment 5 hours a day 5 days a week for a month.
Then 30 days of radiation treatment along with interferon shots 3 times
a week. The interferon will go on 3 days a week for a year. The
radiation has been started and stopped twice because she got burned so
bad from it. This week should be the last of that, hopefully.

Radiation is the gift that keeps on giving. The effects can intensify after the last treatment and get worse for a period of time. Don't expect to see any actual relief for a few weeks. I'd be happy to be wrong in her case.

Ask at the cancer center if they have a wound care nurse available. They can be very helpful dealing with the burns. One of them cleared up my peeling, weeping neck in a matter of days with some wonderful gel stuff. I think it was called Cool Gel. You cut it from the *** to fit the area and place it over a ton of Aquaphor goop.

There was also a prescription cream called Biafine that worked wonders on the burns. Ask about that, too.

It hasn't been fun for her.

Cancer treatment is never fun. I do admit that the pain relief drugs were interesting <g>

You just never know. We've both been blessed with pretty good health
over the years. But ole mother nature has a way of catching up with you
sooner or later. We are glad we got to travel as much as we did and are
planning on doing so again in a year or two.

I was hardly ever sick. I was the caregiver to Barry who came to me with a whole portfolio of conditions. You can imagine how everything was turned upside down when I got sick. Now I'm feeling fine and back to taking care of him.

Hope you are doing well yourself and enjoying life to the fullest.
Thank you again.

I am doing great. All my energy is back and I'm my old hyper self again. Saw a new local doc yesterday (the other one left his practice) and I had to tell him that being so hyper was normal for me. He typed it into his computer.

Barry is doing well but his heart is only working at 25% and will probably have to get a defribulator implanted at the end of the year as he is at risk for "sudden death" We think it's probably better than "slow lingering death" but we'll defer to the doctors. We have trip insurance and Sky-Med to avert the evil eye.

We are leaving in less than two weeks for our Down Under adventure. We won't be RVing any longer, but we intend to travel as much as we can for as long as our health permits. When we can't travel any longer, we'll get a puppy. We just had a new fence installed and that will help, but we are hoping we'll make many other trips before we are forced to quit travel.

Tell Mrs. Rich A that my heart is with her. I know how crappy she is feeling but it WILL get better. Then give her a gentle hug from one survivor to another.

Janet
