For the record, on the subject of farm subsidies, I believe that LZ is wrong. He has been wrong every time the subject has come up, and he is still wrong. Theft from one person or group of people to the benefit of another person or group of people is wrong every time. The ends never justifies the means - I don't care if every family farm in the country goes out of business, only to be bought up by large agribusiness companies. It is no more the government's business to save small farms than it is to save mom and pop grocery stores.

At least I'm honest and identify it as a vote-buying scheme.

I know that corporate farms have absolutely no interest in how their
operations affect neighbors, the aquifer they pump from, the runoff of chemicals and animal waste and other social and environmental concerns.

For that reason I support subsidies to small farms, NOT corporate giants who don't need the money to stay in business.

If you meant during the Great Depression you are aware that none of FDRs programs did anything to actually reduce the depression, ... During and after the depression, farmers were already hurting, then the drought brought on the dust bowl era which literally blew away the top soil and made the plight of the farmers even worse. ...
