And a lot of it is just luck. Or poor planning. I am ready to

the curriculum. That would probably help alot in the long run.

So why aren't parents doing it? The single parent families caused
by AFDC aren't educated themselves and don't want their children to
be smarter than they are.

Ask any big city teacher how much respect their students have for
the learning process.

From what I gather, the problem seems to be; big cities in the north.
Maybe we should get rid of them.

Maybe you should educate yourself?

Texas has the highest teen birth rate in the nation (63 births per 1,000
females ages 15-19) according to the KIDS COUNT Data Book, a national
state-by-state report released today by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

The Texas Dropout Crisis: Magnitude and Impact (01/23/2007)
KIDS COUNT Director, Frances Deviney, Ph.D. briefed legislative staff on the costs of the Texas dropout crisis.

While conditions for teens have improved in Texas, teens statewide are significantly more likely to have sex, drink alcohol, drive drunk, or ride with a drunk driver than teens in other states, according to data compiled in The State of Texas Children 2006.

National Report: Poverty on the Rise in Texas (06/27/2006)
The percentage of kids living in poverty in Texas has increased by 5 percent since 2000.

Hmmmnnn! Looks like things were better when Bush was governor.

And what other forces were at work in their lives? Perhaps the
ones that have to resort ot AFDC are already disillusioned and
the ones that didn't weren't? Your study is a means to
promulgate an idealogy and nothing more. Anyone that concludes
that a program CAUSES single mothers is not objective.
Unprotected sex is the cause of single mothers, no sex education
is a cause of single mothers, peer pressure is the cause of
single mothers. But not a government program.

Ignorance speaking. The rise in illegitimate births correlates perfectly with the advent of AFDC.

Did you know that every single heroin addict in the US drank milk as
a child? If we were to prohibit milk, it would get rid of heroin
abuse, completely.

Not true. Many children are lactose intolerant. It's more pronounced in some ethnic groups than others.

Or be homeless. That would be good. Throw the baby out with the
bath water is not my idea of the way to get rid of the abusers
in a system.

Fatheads who create these programs also create the opportunity for
abusers. Think about that.

Hang on, I have to write this down. Where is my list? Oh, here it
is, ok. Socialist, scumbag, liberal, dirtbag, and fatheads. I am
trying to keep a list of the insults, and I don't want to miss one.

Is your access to insults so limited?

And the people that created the army created the opportunity for
deserters.

The government was given the task of providing for the national defense. It's in the Constitution.

What the heck is a party ***?

A *** put on the BB where people could sign up for parties so
the hosts would know how much beer to plan on selling.
Thursday night was party night because many students left for
their homes after Friday classes.

Some students made money by holding these parties.

You have managed to surround yourself with a whole lot of bad people. I seem to be just the opposite. I have very few like
that around me and when I discover that they are that way, they
aren't around me anymore.

You mean I shouldn't have taken college courses because these bad people were also enrolled there?

You get further out in cuckoosville with every post.

Maybe you are picking the wrong colleges. Mine sure wasn't like
that.

It offered the courses I wanted to take.

And it is Georgetown. And still in the same place. Actually, the
city is getting closer and closer to where I am out in the sticks, so
in actuality, I am getting farther IN without even moving.

Then show us yours that prove what a boon AFDC has been to
society.

Current ones may be difficult to find, since the AFDC program
ended with welfare reform. But I can find articles about the
welfare reform program that are success stories if you would
rather have those. Would 50 be enough? How about a 100?

How many will it take to change your mind?

Millions wouldn't balance out the number of lives ruined by the
AFDC program.

That is what I thought. You just wanted to send me on a wild goose chase that wouldn't change anything, anyway! I knew it.

You simply can't find the number of success stories to match the number of lives ruined. Generations not yet born will be affected.

Absolutely. Around here, if you have friends and family, you are
not likely to get into a situation where you would need any help
other than them. But if you are alone, it could be the only
place to turn. I volunteer for a local charity organization that
has a food pantry and clothing store, etc. called "The Caring
Place". It was established by area churches to help with those
who are less fortunate because there was no other organization in
the area (Williamson County). They have the ability to give
short term help in the form of food and clothing, perhaps a
temporary place to stay, maybe a little cash. Sometimes, that is
all that is needed.

Sometimes, a longer term commitment for help is in order. When
that is the case, the personnel there help the person or families
apply for government assistance so that they can have the time to
get back on their feet. It is not an easy task to do that,
especially without any help. The ones that I see come through
that organization are the ones that I base my judgements on. I
don't see many freeloaders coming through. Just people in
trouble. I am not going to make any judgements about how they
got that way, just that they need help. But they don't seem to be
freeloaders. They are genuinely in need of help.

One of my daughters in law has worked nearly 30 years in a big city
welfare office. I know all about the system, how it works, its failures and the few successes. Many of her reform recommendation
have been adopted.

An expert on the system that doesn't know the difference between a progressive tax and a regressive tax. No wonder those big cities are
in so much trouble.

You are a coward for not speaking out about the injustices at Waco.

And reports show that cities in Texas have far greater problems than those in Minnesota.

Legislators are elected to write laws. Presidents sign them or
veto them.

I have been around

Bush for quite along time, now and I can answer for you: NONE!

Which is less than Obama.

Who is a legislator who apparently has not written any legislation.
I.E a failure at his trade.

Prove it.

Prove he authored any legislation. That's your claim.

And useless. Every politicians says the same thing.

Not to me. It was the thing about him that caught my eye. It is
something that I have believed for a long time, now, and was surprised to hear him say it. Very refreshing.

Yawn.

Getting tired? You can take a break if you need one. Don't feel
like you have to stay here on my account. I have other things I can
do while you rest.

I was bored by your naive comments on a politician speeches.

They also serve who stand and wait.

Mostly they serve themselves.

I always do that at buffets. Don't you?

I think you've been a free-loader for a good share of your life. Am I right?

I am not worried about my

accomplishments and what I have contributed. Let someone else
tell you. I am proud of it, though, just hope I have enough time
to do more.

Sounds to me like you already wasted a good share of your life
being a bum. You got a late start.

I only spent about 6 months as a bum and that was the months between
the last two years of high school when most people are bums.

Not most people I know. I held jobs immediately after graduation and still was only 17 when I joined the Air Force.
The
rest of the time I have held down full time jobs. But I could have
done it better than I did, you are right about that. If only we had
known what we know now, back then.

Read his book. Among other things, he worked at a community
center for the underprivileged in Chicago, did work as a civil
rights lawyer, was a state senator in Illinois for eight years.
If you are interested, when I get through with my research, I
will pass it all on to you.

Please. No self-serving biographies of someone running for
political office.

I didn't think you were really interested. Just looking for an
opening.

If I want to read fiction, I prefer spy mysteries.

The glass is always half empty with you, isn't it?

I'm a realist, not someone who fried his brain as a teenager. LZ

For a realist, the world that you describe sounds pretty unreal. But
I bet you hear that alot.

Only from people who have fried their brains on drugs.
