The second experience was a laptop for work...the one I am typing on right

upgraded it to Ultimate. I also used a Windows USB Transfer Cable to
transfer the settings and files from my old computer. Sony later told me
the computer is not compatible with Ultimate, but it is compatible with
Vista Business. My thinking is that they really mean there is no sense in
running Ultimate since the computer does not have the resources needed to
run the entertainment application like Windows Media Center. I would think
that if Business can run on it, Ul;timate should be able to also. Maybe I'm
wrong about that. I dunno. But what I found is this computer runs very
slow like it is out of resources. I think that the transfer utility was my
problem. I transferred a lot of settings from programs designed for XP into
a computer running Vista. On the computer that works flawlessly I just
backed up the data to DVD and placed it in a new directory on the new
machine. No settings were transferred.

I'd start by going though the display settings (what do they call it -
personalization? I don't have a Vista machine here.) and turn off all
the fancy stuff. The Aero mode soaks up a lot of CPU. Also, check to
see if the "bitlocker" drive encryption is turned on. That's a
difference between business and ultimate.
