Well, I've got new laptop fever, and I've located an HP 9000 for
less than a thousand dollars at Sam's. 17 inch screen, 2 meg
Ram, full numeric pad, 160 meg hard drive, looks pretty good just
sitting there.
About 7 or 8 months ago, there was some noise about problems with
Vista, but it hadn't really rolled out yet. My question is for
those of you currently using Vista.
Are you a happy camper? Any war stories?
Yeah, running pretty solid now. Seems pretty fast.
Is 2 meg of Ram enough? I'm now running XP on 512 meg Ram and it
sometimes seems a little slow to me.
You'll need 2 gig..
Does Vista run everything you want? Exceptions?
It runs most programs but not all. Hard to tell if a program is going to work until it's tried. They have a Windows Xp compatible mode that you can run certain programs in but that's not a fix all. One thing that really annoys me is sometimes when I click on a non-compatible program, it doesn't even acknowledge that I clicked on it. Just doesn't do anything. Not locked up or anything. I can still do other things. I guess that's it's way of handling programs that it doesn't like. It just flat-out ignores them. I've heard other complaints about this from others so it's not just my system.
Anything in particular to watch out for?
Service Pack one should be coming out late this year or early next. This should fix a lot of things.
Tom
