I must have drawn the wrong doctor at the VA. They seemed pissed because I didn't make my own claim, they got the request for disability from the doctor who gave me my retirement physical.

This must be an improper channel.

I think it was a non-com who went thru my records and said, "I'm gonna put you in for disability on this knee thing." I said, "OK". That was the extent of my participation until I started receiving checks. At that point, I took the lead, and my participation became diligent and efficient.

Huh? I had to drive clear to Mpls a bunch of times. Always for 0800 appointments although the quacks don't even show up until 10 or 11. Then I was poked, prodded, X-Rayed until I glowed in the dark and had needles stuck in my leg to see if I flinched or not.

I went to the flight surgeon's office just as I did every year. About the only thing different was the guy going through my medical records page by page. He even made copies for me which I picked up few days later. It was an uneventful event.

My experience was different. I had to travel to Duluth (nearest AFB) for my retirement physical. The doctor did his thing and said he was sending my file straight to the VA for evaluation when I retired. I thought it was routine. The VA thought it was some sort of scam. They've managed to lose 2/3 of my records and when I replaced them, they managed to lose those too.

Occasionally they call and ask me to come in for a "wellness check". There is a VA hospital 15 miles away but I can't go there. Seems they don't do "wellness checks". Gotta go to Mpls. I always ask if they found my records yet. Hee hee. First a silent moment and then a lot of hemming and hawing. I remind them of my last visit when they cooked my spinal cord. Of course this is not mentioned in my files... so they can't figure out why I haven't made a visit in over 30 years.
