I even does that with the new Vista version too. I think the idea was not to repeat the "Re:" so you don't get a message that has "Re: Re: Re:.....ect.". So it removes any two letters before the colon and replaces it with Re. I don't know how other NG programs do that but they likely look for both the Re and the colon+space instead of just the colon+space.
