Just some theories.

I just have to ask, since you guys are having so much fun
psychoanalyzing others. Do either of you have the balls to stand up in a
room full of hundreds of people, with a microphone, and start discussing
the manners and motivation behind the behavior of other people in that
room, or is it possible that you've grown a few more balls knowing that
your targets here don't know who you are and aren't very apt to walk up
and deck you?
Dennis, I think we touched a nerve here <g>.
LOL, yep.
Now back to Lon:
LOL. Nobody would *need* to do that, since in a large roomful of people
nobody is likely to act as you so often do here or he'd likely get his
teeth rearranged.
I've spoken to hundreds of people hundreds of times. I don't recall any
occasion when it was necessary to talk to anyone about their manners. If it
was necessary I don't see any reason not to say something about it. I tend
to be blunt in person. It has earned me a few friends and I've made a few
enemies that way. Rarely someone will threaten to get physical, but no one
has actually carried through since I and they were children. It's sort of
like the way some small dogs behave. The people most likely to use threats
are the ones who are most afraid. The people who are sure of themselves can
stand and talk man to man.

Lon VanOstran, who keeps telling you gutless, nameless, and pompous
jackasses who I am and where I am, because, unlike you guys, I'm not
doing what I do because of being anonymous.
I keep hearing this one here and there and I've been looking for a good
opportunity to respond. I'm not anonymous. I used to use my first name here
and a few people still remember it from those days. You can find my last
name as an obvious part of the email address I was using a few years ago.
It's all there in the archive for anyone who cares enough to look. I've been
using Technobarbarian since before Deja News started archiving usenet. It's
a big silly sig that I hope is easy to remember so that those who enjoy
reading what I have to say can find me easily and those who don't can skip
over me easily. After awhile it got to where that name was as relevant or
maybe even more relevant on usenet than the name my Mom calls me. Hence:
